Green Tree Court located in Exeter is a luxury, 68-bedroom care home which has achieved the Stirling Gold Standard for dementia design. The home provides a comfortable, safe, stylish environment, for those requiring expert dementia support and nursing care.

Purpose of the role

The Integrated Care and Support Worker is a key member of the Care Team, working collaboratively to deliver high-quality, person-centred care for residents. The postholder will undertake duties that ensure a clean, tidy, hygienic, and comfortable environment for all residents, while promoting dignity, independence, and wellbeing.

This multi-skilled role combines:

  • Support with personal care (including assistance with meals, support with dressing, and toileting)
  • Domestic tasks (such as housekeeping and laundry)
  • Support for colleagues when additional help is required

By adopting a flexible, team-based approach, the position enables staff to respond to the changing needs of the home and its residents. The ability to perform a wide range of duties ensures that residents’ needs are met promptly and that resources can be directed to priority areas as required.

Key responsibilities of the role

Personal Care and Daily Living:

  • Support the delivery of high-quality personal care, including assistance with meals, support with dressing, and toileting.
  • Involve residents in daily routines and activities to promote engagement.
  • Promote wellbeing, dignity, and independence for all residents.
  • Assist with manual handling duties as required, following training and safety guidelines.

Laundry and Domestic Duties:

  • Carry out laundry tasks: sorting, washing, drying, folding, and distributing clothing and linens.
  • Perform domestic cleaning tasks to maintain high standards of hygiene in residents’ rooms and communal areas.
  • Ensure deep cleans of rooms are completed as scheduled to maintain infection prevention and control (IPC) standards.
  • Follow infection control procedures during all laundry and cleaning activities.
  • Operate laundry equipment and cleaning machinery safely, including carpet cleaners, following training and health and safety guidelines.
  • Follow laundry labelling advice to ensure correct washing cycles and proper care of residents’ belongings.
  • Take proper care of all equipment and use cleaning chemicals in accordance with health and safety guidelines.

Environment and Safety:

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment throughout the home.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, health and safety, and safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Remain vigilant for safeguarding concerns and report promptly.

Communication and Relationships:

  • Build positive relationships with residents, families, and colleagues.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully at all times.
  • Support a positive, inclusive team culture.
  • Access and update confidential records using the IT system daily; assist residents with technology (e.g. Skype, YouTube etc.) to maintain contact with family and friends.

Monitoring and Record Keeping:

  • Observe and report changes in residents’ wellbeing and environment.
  • Maintain accurate records in line with policy.
  • Report any problems, hazards, or difficulties immediately to senior staff.

Professionalism and Development:

  • Demonstrate a caring, professional, and proactive approach at all times.
  • Take responsibility for own learning and development; seek feedback and apply learning to improve practice.
  • Attend and engage in training, supervision, and team meetings.
  • Actively promote a culture of openness, accountability, and continuous improvement within the care team.

Other Duties:

  • Undertake any other duties as required by the Manager or Supervisor.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by supporting different areas of the home as required.
  • Assist in kitchen duties when requested, including cleaning equipment and surfaces, basic food preparation, and serving meals/snacks.
  • Carry out dining room activities such as laying tables and clearing away as required.
