We are excited to welcome a caring, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented individual to join our friendly and supportive GP practice team as a Dispenser at our Chilcompton branch surgery. Main duties of the job

As a member of our dispensary team, you will play a key role in delivering a safe, efficient, and high-quality dispensing service to our patients. You will be responsible for the accurate preparation and dispensing of prescriptions in line with practice protocols and regulatory requirements. You will also contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the dispensary by supporting stock management, including ordering, monitoring, and replenishing medicines and supplies. This is a varied and rewarding role working within a friendly and supportive team environment.

Job responsibilities

  • Issuing stock items and prepared prescriptions as per standard operating procedures
  • Collection of prescription charges/ checking patient exemption statements
  • Operation of efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the dispensary with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage including expiry date checking on a monthly basis.
  • Ensuring drugs are received and stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the manufacturers' instructions
  • Ensuring that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and maintaining the temperature control record/ log book
  • Maintaining full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions
  • Dispensing medication and checking repeat prescriptions for accuracy using practice standard operating procedures.
  • Taking orders for repeat medication and dealing with queries from other health professionals
  • Use of computer systems effectively to store data and information safely
  • Handling and recording controlled drugs movements as per standard operating procedures and in line with legislation.
  • Participate in dispensary, medication and practice audits as directed by line manager and GP partners.
  • Providing cover for annual leave and sickness working in a team to ensure the dispensary has appropriate staff cover at all times.
  • Preparing patient Dossette boxes for patients as per practice policy ensuring 100% accuracy.
  • To take part in full in the appraisal and training structures of the practice including ensuring all mandatory training is in date.
  • Provide administrative support to the management team as requested.
  • Other duties as requested from time to time.

Experience

  • At least one year's previous experience as a Pharmacy Dispenser or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of medication administration and pharmacy operations
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and safety protocols
