We are seeking a skilled database team lead to join a client of ours who operate within the health tech space. As a database team lead, you’ll oversee the design, upkeep, and enhancement of SQL and Postgres database environments, guaranteeing that these systems adhere to the stringent requirements for performance, security, and availability as expected by customers. In addition, you will manage a high performing team, developing, mentoring and providing support where necessary.

Primary Duties and Tasks

  • Guiding, mentoring, and fostering the growth of a team of database administrators by offering direction, assistance, and opportunities for professional development.
  • Overseeing the management and administration of SQL and Postgres database systems to guarantee optimal availability, performance, and security.
  • Formulating and implementing database best practices, standards, and policies to uphold data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Collaborating with development teams to enhance database queries and schema designs for improved performance.
  • Vigilantly monitoring database performance, troubleshooting, and resolving issues, and securing the availability and reliability of database systems.

  • Maintaining an in-depth technical proficiency in SQL and Postgres database systems.

  • Ensuring all documentation aligns with and adheres to best practices.
  • Guaranteeing the team has adequate resources to achieve business outcomes.

Requirements

  • Possess a BSc degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Extensive experience as a database administrator for PostGres and SQL, encompassing tasks such as installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Prior experience with both Linux and Microsoft Operating Systems.
  • Essential proficiency in Agile and Prince 2 methodologies.
  • Previous leadership experience, including leading, developing, and coaching a team.
  • Preferred certifications: Microsoft SQL qualifications, PostgreSQL Certified Engineer.
  • Comprehensive understanding of database security, encryption, and access control mechanisms.
  • Robust knowledge of database performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing.
  • Understanding of high availability and disaster recovery solutions for SQL and Postgres databases.
  • Experience with database monitoring and management tools.
  • Competence in database migration and version upgrade procedures.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation for database tasks.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
