Are you a Civil or Structural Engineer with a passion for precast concrete and a desire to work at the forefront of UK rail infrastructure? We’re looking for a Precast Civil Engineer to take technical ownership of precast concrete solutions used across major rail projects - supporting everything from product development and approvals through to manufacturing excellence and continuous improvement. This is a highly influential role, sitting at the intersection of engineering, operations, commercial and procurement, where your expertise will directly shape product quality, safety and innovation.
What you’ll be doing:
- Driving product innovation
- Lead and support new precast product development, including design, testing and approvals (particularly with Network Rail)
- Carry out structural calculations for reinforced concrete elements
- Design connections, lifting points and transportation methods
- Optimise designs for performance, safety, sustainability and manufacturability
- Technical leadership & governance
- Produce and review technical drawings, specifications and bar bending schedules
- Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, standards and safety regulations
- Prepare reports and documentation for certification, approvals and project governance
- Manufacturing & quality oversight
- Provide hands-on technical support to manufacturing teams
- Approve production drawings, materials and QC procedures
- Troubleshoot issues related to concrete mix design, reinforcement and tolerances
- Collaboration & commercial support
- Act as a trusted technical partner to commercial, procurement and operations teams
- Support technical queries, claims and supplier testing
- Work closely with clients, contractors and supply-chain partners
- Safety & continuous improvement
- Champion a best-in-class safety culture
- Embed safety considerations into every technical and operational decision
- Drive continuous improvement, knowledge-sharing and industry best practice
What we’re looking for:
- Experience & knowledge
- Strong background in precast concrete or construction materials
- Solid experience in reinforced concrete and steel design
- Rail sector experience is highly advantageous
- Up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and emerging technologies
- Qualifications
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
- 5+ years’ relevant industry experience
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Tekla, SketchUp, Excel
- ICE Chartered (or working towards) advantageous but not essential
- IOSH safety training preferred
- Personal qualities
- Clear, confident communicator - able to explain complex engineering simply
- Proactive, resilient and solutions-focused
- Strong sense of ownership with a genuine desire to improve how things are done
