Solvit Recruitment are looking for a HGV Technician / Fleet Mechanic. This is a permanent position with a salary from £43,000 P.A. You will be working for a fantastic company that really looks after their team and now needs an experienced HGV Technician to provide technical and mechanical support to our growing fleet of articulated vehicles, rigids, and trailers.
You will take ownership from day 1, with a full set up that you can make your own. Working hours are Monday to Friday 08:00 - 17:00, with on call between the hours of 06:00 – 18:00, which can vary but no late evenings.
Currently, the fleet consists of:
- 26 trailers
- 8 Units
- 2 Rigids
Planned Fleet Expansion:
- 35 trailers
- 12 units
- 3 Rigids
This is a brand new position with full support. You will be given your own van which you can take home, and you will be working primarily in the yard with repairs and help with any breakdowns. While working from the yard, we will be looking for new premises for a workshop for you to run.
You will need a HGV Class 1 licence, as you will take the truck for MOTs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carrying out repairs and routine maintenance on trailers, units, and rigid vehicles
- Completing 6-week and 12-week inspections
- Diagnosing faults and rectifying mechanical issues
- Attending onsite and on-call breakdowns
- Taking vehicles for MOT preparation and testing
- Performing brake tests, including loading weights with a forklift
- Conducting road test drives following repairs and inspections
- Ensuring all work is completed to DVSA and company standards
- Maintaining accurate service and inspection records

Requirements:
- Proven experience as an HGV Technician / Mechanic
- Strong knowledge of HGV maintenance and diagnostics
- Full Class 1 (C+E) licence required
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
- Good understanding of vehicle safety and compliance standards
Advantageous Qualifications:
- Forklift licence
- Experience with trailer maintenance and brake testing procedures
- IRTEC qualification or equivalent (preferred but not essential)
