This role combines deep patent expertise with AI systems development to drive client success and product innovation at Solve. You\’ll serve as both a trusted advisor to patent professionals and a technical contributor to our AI-powered patent platform.
️ About the role
We are looking for talented members of our legal and product patent team. We\’re looking for someone who sits at the intersection of patent law and AI innovation. This isn\’t your typical client-facing role or traditional R&D position – it\’s something entirely new. You\’ll be the bridge between the complex world of patent practice and the cutting-edge AI technology that\’s transforming it.
What you’ll do:
- AI Output Optimization:
- Work closely with our AI and Engineering team to define and develop products and AI systems specifically for patent applications, prosecution, portfolio management, freedom-to-operate, and patent litigation
- Work closely with our AI team to iterate and develop algorithms and prompts to specialize our AI systems for patent professionals, and prompt engineer large language models for patent-specific tasks (claim analysis, prior art comparison, obviousness assessment, etc.)
- Build proprietary benchmarks and datasets to evaluate patent AI models against real-world USPTO and international patent office requirements
- Product Development:
- Serve as the voice of patent practitioners inside Solve – translating client insights into product development priorities and roadmap decisions
- Document best practices and develop scalable playbooks for patent AI adoption across different practice areas (biotech, software, mechanical, etc.)
- Help clients navigate the transformation of patent practice through AI – from evaluating ROI on automated prior art searches to mapping AI impact across prosecution, litigation, and portfolio management workflows
- Tackle unsolved AI problems specific to patent law complexities and USPTO examination processes
- Client Partnership & AI Deployment:
- Act as a strategic thought partner to patent attorneys, IP professionals, and corporate legal teams – building trusted relationships and identifying high-value opportunities to scale their use of Solve\’s patent AI platform
- Take full ownership of client relationships from initial pilots through firm-wide adoption across major IP practices and corporate patent departments
- Deliver compelling product demonstrations and training sessions that showcase how AI transforms patent workflows – from prior art searches to claim drafting and prosecution strategy

Who you’ll work with
Sanj (Chief Research Officer and co-founder): Sanj did his MSci in Physics at the University of Cambridge and his PhD in AI at the Gatsby Unit, UCL. He won awards at top AI conferences, worked on the R&D team at Huawei, and received widespread attention for his contributions to open-source LLM GitHub projects. He joined Magic Carpet AI as employee #4, where he developed AI strategies for trading which deployed millions of capital before being acquired by Blockchain.com.
Chris (Chief Executive Officer and co-founder): Chris did his undergrad at Imperial College, masters at the University of Cambridge, and PhD at UCL, during which he published 10+ publications and won awards in top AI conferences and journals. He has worked in leading tech organisations, including Dyson, The Alan Turing Institute, and InstaDeep before its acquisition by BioNTech.
Angus (Chief Technology Officer and co-founder): Angus did an MEng in Computer Science at the University of Bristol where he won a cyber security scholarship at GCHQ before working at Qualcomm. He then joined a London-based hedge fund, Coremont (Brevan Howard). There, he led a small team to build a greenfield trade processing platform which scaled to millions of trades per day.
Justin (Founding Member of Legal and Product Team): Justin studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and law at Georgetown University Law Center. Before joining Solve, he practiced law at Quarles & Brady, a top U.S. law firm, where he managed, supervised, and prosecuted global patent portfolios and counseled companies on multi-million-dollar global product and technology launches.
Daniel (Founding Full-Stack Engineer): Daniel studied Computing at Imperial College London. During his undergraduate, he intern’d at a bike rental startup where he single-handedly rebuilt the entire frontend, backend, and infrastructure of the software product which today is being used to rent and maintain 1K+ bikes across Oxford.
Roy (Founding AI Engineer): Roy studied Computer Science and Biology at Tel Aviv University. He holds two patents in LLM meta-architectures and big data analysis. Before Solve, Roy joined Perception Point as employee #13 and their first AI hire. He helped scale the company to 300+ people and led 20+ research engineers as Director of Detection and AI. He also previously founded robotics startup Senatus and, in his spare time, built AI products to help VC firms predict early startup success.
Harry (Founding Member of Legal and Product Team): Harry studied Physics at the University of Bristol and then Robotics at King\’s College London. He is a UK & European patent attorney with extensiveexperience in every part of the patent application process, having worked at highly reputable London firms including Reddie & Grose and Dentons. More recently, Harry set up the London practice of a US law firm as their firstEuropean hire.
Tom (Founding Full-Stack Engineer): Tom did his undergrad in physics at Imperial, during which he became interested in programming. He then worked as a full-stack engineer at Redgate. He wanted to learn how computers fundamentally work, and so in his spare built emulators to replicate 1980s hardware on which he can now run classic Nintendo games.

Must haves:
- Admitted to practice before the USPTO or EPO.
- 3+ years of patent prosecution experience.
- Undergraduate degree, preferably in engineering or life sciences.

- Experience with software development, including knowledge of Python and prompt engineering.
- Prior experience working directly with clients.
