CAD Design Engineer (Solid Works)

Our client is a successful UK manufacturer specialising in bespoke engineered solutions for commercial environments.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit a CAD Design Engineer to join their expanding design department.

This is an excellent opportunity for a light to mid-weight designer looking to further develop their career within a supportive and collaborative environment.

Working closely with an experienced Senior Designer, you'll receive ongoing mentoring while taking ownership of a variety of bespoke projects from concept through to manufacture and installation.

The role would suit someone with strong Solid Works experience who is eager to learn, enjoys working across multiple departments and wants to develop into a well-rounded design engineer.

The Role

  • Produce accurate 3D CAD models and detailed technical drawings using Solid Works.
  • Generate comprehensive drawing packs for both customer approval and production.
  • Create production-ready designs from customer briefs and design concepts.
  • Modify and update existing drawings as projects develop.
  • Manage drawings within a revision-controlled Solid Works PDM environment.
  • Take ownership of live projects, acting as the key design contact throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work closely with Sales, Project Management, Procurement, Production and Installation teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Provide technical advice and support to both internal teams and customers where required.
  • Ensure all drawings are completed accurately, on schedule and meet manufacturing requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve designs, reduce manufacturing costs and enhance production processes.
  • The Ideal Candidate
  • Minimum of 4 years' commercial Solid Works experience.
  • Experience working within a revision-controlled, process-driven design environment.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and prioritise multiple projects.
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to collaborate across different departments.
  • Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop.
  • Able to take ownership of projects and see them through from design to manufacture.

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous

  • Aluminium profile systems
  • Sheet metal fabrication
  • Tubular fabrication and welding
  • Timber construction
  • Plastic fabrication
  • Retail fit-out or exhibition design
  • Electrical or LED products

Package

  • £35,000 - £40,000 depending on experience.
