The Role

My client is a specialist BMS company looking for an experienced BMS Service Manager to lead and develop their service department. This is a key management position, responsible for overseeing service delivery, leading a team of engineers, maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring the commercial performance of the service function. You will play a hands-on role in driving operational standards, improving processes and supporting the continued growth of the service division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership
    • Lead, manage and motivate a team of BMS Service Engineers
    • Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular reviews and appraisals
    • Identify training and development requirements across the service team
    • Support engineers with technical and operational challenges
    • Manage escalated issues and promote a collaborative, high-performing team culture
    • Assist with recruitment and onboarding of new service engineers where required
  • Service & Operational Management
    • Take overall responsibility for the delivery of PPM, reactive maintenance and remedial works
    • Ensure service contracts are delivered within agreed SLAs, budgets and quality standards
    • Manage engineer workloads, utilisation, scheduling and resource allocation
    • Monitor service performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency
    • Review service reports, quotations and technical documentation
    • Ensure all works are delivered in line with company procedures and health & safety requirements
    • Work closely with project and commissioning teams to ensure a smooth handover of new systems into service
  • Client & Commercial Management
    • Act as a senior point of contact for key service clients
    • Build and maintain strong, long-term customer relationships
    • Manage service contracts, renewals, variations and associated commercial activity
    • Monitor departmental revenue, costs, margins and profitability
    • Ensure accurate and timely invoicing across the service department
    • Identify opportunities for additional works, upgrades and service growth
    • Support the sales team with client development and new business opportunities
    • Attend client meetings and site visits where required

About You

The ideal candidate will have a strong background within the BMS industry, combined with proven experience managing service teams, contracts or operational functions. You will be technically credible, commercially aware and confident dealing with both engineers and senior client stakeholders. The role would suit an experienced BMS Service Manager, Senior Service Engineer, Service Supervisor or Contracts Manager looking to take the next step in their career.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience within the BMS/BEMS industry
  • Proven experience managing engineers, service contracts or a service department
  • Strong understanding of BMS service, maintenance, fault finding and remedial works
  • Good technical knowledge of platforms such as Trend, Tridium Niagara, Siemens, Schneider or similar
  • Experience managing PPM and reactive maintenance contracts
  • Strong understanding of SLAs, KPIs and service delivery
  • Commercial awareness, including budgets, margins, invoicing and contract profitability
  • Excellent communication and client relationship management skills
  • Strong leadership, organisational and problem-solving abilities
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required
