Company Overview: My client is a UK machine tool agent that has been consistently scaling over the past 6 years and decided to invest in a skilled applications engineer to join their team. They specialise in supplying and supporting large-format CNC machinery for milling and turning applications, representing some of the world's most respected brands.
As an Applications Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering hands-on training, technical support, and machine optimisation for customers across the UK. You'll be working on-site with clients, typically for 3-5 day projects, ensuring smooth installation, training, and handover of advanced CNC machinery.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver on-site customer training and applications support for CNC machines
- Optimise and fine-tune machines post-installation for best performance
- Provide technical advice on tooling, programming, and machining strategies
- Work with Fanuc and Heidenhain controls (essential)
- Special focus on large machinery and bedmills (experience highly desirable)
- Produce detailed setup sheets, application notes, and feedback for customers
- Collaborate with internal teams (sales, service, and technical support)
- During quieter periods, assist the Service Engineering team with installations or fault-finding
- Opportunity to gain commercial experience supporting the Area Sales Manager on customer visits or demonstrations
Skills & Experience Required:
- Proven experience as an Applications Engineer or CNC Programmer/Machinist.
- In-depth knowledge of Fanuc and Heidenhain controls
- Strong practical experience with milling and turning machines
- Experience with Bed mills is a significant advantage
- Excellent communication and customer-facing skills
- Willingness to travel UK-wide with occasional overnight stays
- Full UK driving licence
