An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Associate Hydrogeologist to take on a senior leadership role within a growing hydrogeology and flood risk team. Primarily office based with flexibility for hybrid working and site visits, you will lead a team of hydrogeologists and flood risk consultants while overseeing the day-to-day operation of the business unit. You will be responsible for ensuring high‑quality technical delivery, strong financial performance, and the continued development of the team. This is a key strategic role offering the chance to influence business direction, drive innovation, and contribute to the growth of a well‑established consultancy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the hydrogeology and flood risk teams, supporting wellbeing and professional development
- Oversee daily operations, including workload planning, resource allocation, and financial performance
- Act as technical authority and reviewer for complex hydrogeological, groundwater, water resources, and flood risk projects
- Lead the preparation and approval of fee proposals, scopes of work, and project budgets
- Manage high‑profile and complex projects, ensuring delivery to programme, budget, and quality standards
- Provide strategic technical advice to clients, regulators, and internal stakeholders
- Build and maintain strong client and regulator relationships
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated environmental solutions
- Drive continuous improvement in business processes, systems, and quality assurance
- Contribute to business strategy, growth, and service development
- Support technical excellence through knowledge sharing, CPD, and industry engagement
About You
- Degree in Geology or a related discipline (MSc in Hydrogeology or equivalent desirable)
- Significant experience in hydrogeology, groundwater, or water resources
- Proven experience in a leadership or senior technical role, including team management
- Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and experience working with regulators
- Demonstrated project management experience, including budgets and programme delivery
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly
- Experience mentoring and developing staff
- Experience contributing to or managing quality, health & safety, and environmental systems
