We are currently seeking an experienced Technical Manager to join a dynamic SME organisation, part of a larger group of companies, offering a range of services across Rail, Highways, and the Built Environment. This company is renowned for its expertise in structural inspection and difficult access solutions, with a strong portfolio of high-profile projects across the UK.
As the Technical Manager, reporting to the Head of Inspection & Maintenance, this role will provide technical expertise to support business activities, particularly in inspection, materials testing, and maintenance, often requiring difficult access techniques.
Key Responsibilities:- Act as the technical focal point for staff and senior management.
- Provide engineering recommendations for asset stability.
- Develop and deliver training programs to maintain team competence.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks and inefficiencies.
- Contribute to tender writing, pricing, and submission.
- Support external audits and accreditation processes.
- Mentor team members and assist in their professional development.
- Essential: Chartered Engineer (Civil or Structural) with professional membership (e.g., ICE, IStructE).
- 10+ years’ experience in Highways or Rail sectors.
- Strong understanding of built structures, their repair, and failure mechanisms.
- Experience in pricing, tender submissions, and mentoring.
- Knowledge of Network Rail or Highways Standards.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Desired: NEBOSH certificate, previous senior management experience.
- Experience in asset management, ISO standards, and audit processes.
- Familiarity with Rail/Highways structures condition indices.
- Competence in training program development and delivery.
- Network Rail STE competencies (e.g., STE4, STE2).
