We are seeking an experienced Principal Designer (CDM 2015) to support a major client site in the Midlands. This role requires strong technical competence, excellent communication skills, and the ability to coordinate design risk management across multiple contractors and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design Risk Management Lead the planning, management, and monitoring of the pre-construction phase in line with CDM 2015. Identify, eliminate, and reduce foreseeable design risks throughout the project lifecycle. Coordinate design risk reviews and ensure designers comply with their duties.
  • CDM Compliance & Documentation Develop, review, and update Pre-Construction Information (PCI) and ensure it is issued to all relevant parties. Review and comment on contractor RAMS, ensuring alignment with design intent and risk controls. Prepare and manage the Health & Safety File, ensuring all required information is collected and maintained.
  • Site Coordination & Oversight Carry out and record site inspections to verify that design risk controls are implemented. Liaise with the Principal Contractor to ensure safe planning and sequencing of works. Monitor compliance with approved statements and design risk mitigation measures.
  • Stakeholder Engagement Act as the key point of contact for the client on all CDM and design-related matters. Facilitate communication between designers, contractors, and the client team. Provide clear, timely updates on design risks, changes, and compliance issues.
  • Quality, Safety & Reporting Conduct quality and safety inspections relating to design implementation. Review and check design drawings, specifications, and reports for CDM compliance. Maintain accurate records of design decisions, risk assessments, and coordination activities.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in CDM, design management, or construction H&S
  • Strong knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary design teams
  • Project and commercial management experience
  • NEBOSH Construction (or equivalent)
  • First Aid (desirable)
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills
