Senior / Lead Electronics Design Engineer
A leading provider of innovative laser systems to help people in various global markets, including renewables, microelectronics, research, life science, automotive, and medicine.
We seek an experienced Senior / Lead Electronics Design Engineer to join us at our Scotland site.
This role will work as part of the product development team and be responsible for the electronics from design to production release and support of our cutting‑edge laser systems.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Project management.
- Designing electronic circuits and assemblies from concept to production release and maintenance.
- Debugging, simulation, and validation of electronic and system designs.
- Testing and reporting results to the Development team.
- Reliability and regulatory testing of products.
- Creating technical documentation.
- Providing design data packs to production for manufacturing and support during the product lifecycle.
- Obsolescence management and maintenance/support of legacy products.
Education & Experience
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject with demonstrable experience of board‑level design and mixed signal electronics.
- Demonstrable experience of full product design and good appreciation of the whole development cycle from concept to production.
- Demonstrable electrical / electronics engineering experience in an industrial environment.
- Experience in microcontroller, mixed analogue and digital circuit designs.
- Ability to manage projects including budget, schedule control/monitoring, and cost reduction programmes.
- A good understanding of product design from specification through to delivery, with consideration for DFT and DFM.
- Practical experience in Schematics Capture, Layout and PCB Design Tools.
- Good prototyping skills and soldering with SMT components.
- Excellent debugging skills, ability to integrate and validate electronic and system designs.
- Knowledge and experience in RoHS, EMC / LVD regulatory testing and CE product approval process.
- Programming knowledge of FPGAs using Verilog.
- Experience of creating and maintaining technical documentation.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment, but also with their own initiative.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Any relevant experience within the laser environment would be highly desirable but not essential.
- Design experience in STM32F series ARM core processors.
- Experience with Toradex‑based embedded computing modules.
- Test equipment development to support production and manufacturing.
