A well-established international manufacturing business is seeking an HSE Manager to drive compliance, improve safety performance, and help shape a proactive safety culture across a complex industrial operation. Joining at an exciting stage of the company's HSE journey, you'll have the autonomy to assess current practices, identify opportunities for improvement, and lead meaningful change across the site. This is an opportunity to establish yourself as the subject matter expert for all HSE matters while helping to create a safer, more compliant, and more engaged workplace.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of the site's Health, Safety & Environmental Management Systems.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant UK HSE legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement a structured HSE improvement roadmap aligned with business objectives.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and driving corrective actions.
- Conduct and review risk assessments, COSHH assessments and safe systems of work.
- Manage contractor safety processes and permit-to-work systems.
- Deliver HSE training, inductions, toolbox talks and engagement initiatives.
- Lead audit, inspection and compliance monitoring activities.
- Provide expert guidance on facilities compliance, including fire safety, legionella, asbestos and statutory inspections.
- Produce meaningful HSE reports, metrics and recommendations for senior leadership teams.
- Promote and embed a positive safety culture across all areas of the business.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Proven HSE leadership experience within manufacturing, industrial, engineering or heavy industry environments.
- Strong working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Experience implementing HSE improvement programmes and driving behavioural and cultural change.
- NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent professional HSE accreditation).
- Experience delivering training and engaging with operational teams at all levels.
- Strong communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
- Experience supporting ISO management systems and audit programmes.
- Facilities compliance knowledge including Fire, Legionella and Asbestos management.
- Experience working directly with regulatory bodies and external auditors.
- Background within textiles, paper, engineering, construction products or similar industrial sectors.
