Job Summary: We are looking for an experienced Electrical Tester to support the commissioning and ongoing maintenance of electrical systems within a high-demand Data Centre environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing testing, inspection, and verification of critical electrical infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, compliance, and safety. This role demands precision, technical expertise, and a strong understanding of data centre power systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out comprehensive testing and commissioning of electrical systems, including LV & HV switchgear, UPS systems, generators, PDUs, and distribution boards.
- Conduct insulation resistance, continuity, earth loop impedance, RCD testing, and functional performance tests.
- Ensure all electrical systems comply with relevant standards such as IEC, BS7671, and local codes.
- Document and report all test results, ensuring traceability and compliance with data centre protocols and industry best practices.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot faults within electrical systems, providing effective solutions with minimal downtime.
- Support the integration of new electrical installations into existing infrastructure with minimal disruption to live services.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and commissioning teams to coordinate testing schedules and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records, test certifications, and ensure compliance with health & safety policies, especially in high-risk, mission-critical environments.
- Ensure all testing equipment is calibrated, maintained, and used correctly.
Qualifications:
- Electrical trade qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
- Proven experience as an Electrical Tester, preferably within data centres or critical infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of electrical power systems including UPS, generators, switchgear, and control systems.
- Familiarity with BS7671 Wiring Regulations (18th Edition preferred).
- Relevant testing certifications (2391/2394 & 2395 or equivalent Inspection & Testing qualification).
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure.
- Effective communication skills to liaise with contractors, engineers, and clients.
- Health & Safety awareness including use of PPE and adherence to site-specific protocols.
Desirable:
- Experience working in live data centre environments or mission-critical sectors.
- Knowledge of HV systems and relevant authorizations (AP or SAP status desirable).
- Familiarity with commissioning processes and documentation for data centres.
