My client, a Tier 1 Main Contractor, is looking for a Project Manager (Fibre Optics / Utilities) to support client research and tender activity in this market. A Fibre Optic Project Manager oversees all aspects of fibre optic installation projects, from planning to implementation and closeout.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Project Planning and Management: Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets. Allocate resources efficiently. Monitor progress and make adjustments as needed. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to stakeholders’ satisfaction.
  • Contract Management: Manage contracts with vendors and suppliers. Assign tasks and communicate expected deliverables.
  • Quality Assurance: Utilise industry best practices, techniques, and standards. Ensure reliable and resilient technical solutions.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Management: Keep stakeholders informed throughout the project. Synchronise all project elements for successful completion.
  • Additional duties: May include preconstruction/business development activities in developing opportunities in this market.

Scope of sector:

  • Preparation: Understand the project scope and objectives. Select the appropriate type of fibre optic cable. Create a design installation plan based on site characteristics.
  • Equipment and Tools: Use specialised tools like fibre optic cleavers, strippers, fusion splicers, and test equipment. Clear and prepare the preferred cable route (trenching or aerial construction). Lay the fibre optic cable using cable blowing or pulling tension. Connect the cable to network equipment and test for proper operation.
