Role Objective: The Clinical and Safeguarding Specialist is a key member of the clinical team, involved in reporting, data collation, safeguarding, clinical governance, clinical education and continuous improvement. Collaborating closely with the leadership team, the focus is on delivering high-quality clinical, safeguarding and clinical education support, and fostering relationships with external partners.

Clinical Governance & Safeguarding:

  • Assist the Clinical & Safeguarding Team in all procedural, policy, and administrative duties.
  • Champion safeguarding, excellence in clinical work, clinical training, and welfare across Kooth, sharing best practice and ensuring that Kooth policy is enacted in practice.
  • Support staff working directly with users, including some focus on our face-to-face teams.
  • Support audit review processes, providing feedback to workers from clinical audit cycles and ensuring any concerns identified are appropriately escalated and acted on.
  • Provide specialist advice and support to staff working in our services, including support for complex cases online, responding to daily clinical and safeguarding requests from workers, and being a robust point of contact and liaison for our services.
  • Contributing to the development of (and facilitation of) specific projects and working groups as agreed with the Head of department.
  • Identify and report to the Head of Department any practice areas or systems which place Kooth at risk of not fulfilling their clinical or safeguarding duties and obligations.
  • Participate in On-Call responsibilities out of office hours (experience dependent).
  • Maintain accurate, detailed and up-to-date records and in-house documentation, managing these in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
  • Ensure all record keeping and any transfer of records is done within GDPR requirements and legislation.
  • Provide support to ensure that clinical and safeguarding policies and procedures are in place.

Clinical Education:

  • Guide service delivery staff through the full Learner Journey, from induction and probation to ongoing education, so they feel confident and capable of delivering safe, effective digital mental health care.
  • Deliver and coordinate clinical education activities across this journey, including live sessions, self-guided learning, and protected time for reflection and professional development, to ensure a clear and consistent learning experience.
  • Ensure clinical education is evidence-informed and practice-led, focusing on outcomes, risk and safety, assessment and formulation, effective digital communication, and the use of interventions.
  • Use quality intelligence to continuously improve education, including audit findings, safeguarding themes, incident learning, and learner feedback.
  • Maintain smooth delivery by keeping accurate learning records, managing resources effectively, and using the learning platform appropriately where needed.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Support Head of Department with commissioner requests and contractual requirements, pulling from various resources, databases, systems, and workers.
  • Attend briefings/meetings to represent the clinical team and Head of department where appropriate.
  • Respond to requests for access to records and/or data, liaising internally and externally to provide these within policy.

Analysis, Reporting & Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure that all reporting, including case studies for stakeholders and local authorities, demonstrate robust clinical and safeguarding procedures and processes.
  • Act as a point of contact for arranging requests for any data relating to clinical functions.
  • Support with activities related to quality improvement and quality assurance, both within the clinical team and cross-functionally.

Management & Leadership:

  • Provide guidance and support to staff, as a specialist leading in clinical, safeguarding and educational practices.

Essential:

  • Professional qualification in a relevant field (psychology, education, nursing, social work, counselling).
  • Professional registration with relevant body.
  • Minimum of three years’ post-qualification experience with children, young people and vulnerable adults in one or more clinical areas.
  • Trained to a minimum of L4 Safeguarding in children and adults inline with NHS intercollegiate document.
  • Substantial experience providing Safeguarding advice and guidance within a health and social care setting.
  • Experience in managing complex multi-agency safeguarding cases.

Desired:

  • Experience working in online/digital mental health services.
  • Supervision qualification.
  • Experience undertaking investigations following serious incidents or similar.
  • Qualification and/or experience in training or group facilitation.
