The Applications & Support Engineer will focus on the design and integration of high-quality lighting and video systems for permanent AV projects, including overseeing the technical lifecycle of projects, from design to on-site commissioning and client training. This hybrid role reflects the close relationship between lighting and video in modern AV projects, where the two disciplines work together to create cohesive, immersive environments. By combining these areas into a single role, Solotech ensures that projects are approached holistically – with solutions that are technically robust, visually impactful, and operationally sustainable.
Responsibilities
- Support the full technical delivery lifecycle for integrated lighting and video systems, from early design stages through to commissioning, training, and project handover.
- Produce and maintain system designs and technical documentation, ensuring solutions are practical, reliable, and aligned with client requirements.
- Collaborate with Sales, Project Management, CAD, Installation, and Service teams to deliver integrated AV projects to a high standard.
- Provide training and support to clients and end-users, ensuring systems are user‑friendly and supported by clear handover information.
- Responsible for providing high‑level general technical needs.
- Provide on‑site technical support during delivery and commissioning, coordinating with the service team for any post‑handover client needs.
- Contribute to on‑site commissioning, troubleshooting, and testing to verify system performance.
- Maintain strong communication with clients, consultants, and suppliers, representing Solotech positively throughout the project.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies, sharing knowledge to support team development and continuous improvement.
- Timely handover of efficient and fit‑for‑purpose project documentation to the Service team.
- Any other reasonable ad‑hoc requests as required by your manager.
Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant qualification in a technical or engineering field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Educated to industry related degree level or equivalent is desirable.
Work Experience
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a Systems Integration department covering both lighting and video.
Essential Skills / Experience
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Vectorworks.
- Solid understanding of lighting and video systems, including control, distribution, and networking fundamentals.
- Experience with one or more common control and synchronisation protocols (e.g., DMX/RDM, sACN, Art‑Net, MA‑Net, MIDI, OSC, timecode/genlock).
- Professional video system integration (e.g., LED controllers/processors, projection, media servers, signal distribution, video‑over‑IP such as NDI/SDVoE).
- Exposure to one or more platforms (examples only): Lighting & Control: grandMA/MA3, ETC Eos/Paradigm, Pharos, ChamSys, Lutron, Avolites. Video & Display: Disguise, Pixera, Green Hippo, WATCHOUT, Resolume, NovaStar, Analog Way, Q‑SYST (control).
- Ability to produce and interpret technical documentation and system drawings.
- Familiarity with AV design and drawing tools such as AutoCAD and Vectorworks (Revit and SketchUp desirable, but not essential).
- Excellent diagnostic and problem‑solving skills, with a structured approach to troubleshooting.
- Confident communicator with the ability to provide client training and support.
- Highly organised, able to manage multiple workstreams in a fast‑paced project environment.
- Strong IT and collaboration skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
Desirable Skills / Experience
- ECS Certification Card.
Essential Requirements
- Full Clean UK Driving License.
- Right to work and remain in the UK.
- Ability to travel throughout the UK including overnight stays from time to time (including occasional weekends).
