Got solid civils experience and looking for a permanent role?
We’re recruiting for an experienced Civils Operative to join an established infrastructure contractor working across Suffolk.
This is a practical, hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, knows their way around excavation and groundworks, and takes pride in leaving a job properly finished.
You’ll be working as part of a professional team on street lighting and infrastructure projects, carrying out excavation, ducting and reinstatement works while working safely around existing underground services.
The opportunity
No two days are necessarily the same.
You’ll be out on site working alongside experienced operatives and supervisors, helping deliver civil engineering works safely and efficiently.
Your responsibilities will include
- Excavation and trenching
- Working safely around underground services
- Locating and working around LV cables
- Duct installation
- Groundworks associated with street lighting
- Operating plant and equipment where competent
- Assessing ground conditions
- Backfilling and reinstatement
- Maintaining a safe and tidy site
- Working to project and local authority requirements
- Reporting any hazards or issues to your Supervisor
- Supporting the wider team to keep projects moving
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who can get stuck in and knows how to do the job safely and properly.
Ideally, you'll have
- Previous experience as a Civils Operative, Groundworker or similar
- Experience in civil engineering, utilities or street lighting
- Experience with excavation and trenching
- Ducting experience
- Reinstatement experience
- Experience working around underground services
- Experience working around LV cables
- COP2 certification
- Experience operating plant up to 5 tonnes
- Good awareness of health & safety
- Full UK driving licence
