About the Role

Redbridge Council is seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer with a strong pollution and environmental protection background to support our small Pollution / Environmental Protection team. This is a strategic, project-focused role providing technical expertise on noise, air quality, and environmental improvement initiatives. You will lead on noise-related planning consultations, manage Section 61 applications under the Control of Pollution Act, and provide clear technical advice to Planning and other stakeholders. You will also support air quality initiatives and contribute to water quality improvement projects where relevant. This is not a reactive role – there are no general noise complaints. The focus is on technical, strategic, and project-based work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead noise planning consultations and provide expert technical advice.
  • Manage Section 61 applications and related derogations.
  • Support air quality management and action planning, including public consultation.
  • Advise on water quality projects and environmental improvement initiatives.
  • Deliver independent, high-quality technical advice to internal and external stakeholders.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Qualified Environmental Health Officer or Pollution Officer with strong environmental protection/pollution control experience.
  • Proven experience in noise planning consultations and Section 61 processes.
  • Knowledge of air quality management and action planning.
  • Aware of water quality and environmental improvement projects.
  • Ability to work independently and provide clear technical guidance.
