Health & Safety Officer

Location: Brighton (BN1 7GA) Sector: Public Sector Type: Temporary – 2–3 months initially Hours: 35 hours per week

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Health & Safety Officer to join a public sector organisation on an initial 2–3 month temporary assignment.

The successful candidate will provide professional health and safety advice across operational services, supporting managers with risk management, compliance, investigations and workplace improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advice on health & safety legislation, guidance and best practice.
  • Complete and review risk assessments and method statements.
  • Carry out inspections, audits and workplace observations.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses and reported hazards.
  • Develop and deliver health & safety training and briefings.
  • Support managers with health & safety improvement plans.
  • Review policies, procedures and safety standards.
  • Monitor compliance and identify areas for improvement.

Requirements

  • NEBOSH General Certificate, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Tech IOSH or relevant professional membership, or working towards.
  • Previous experience in a frontline/operational Health & Safety role.
  • Knowledge of HSG65, health & safety legislation and risk management.
  • Experience delivering training and conducting investigations.
  • Strong communication, influencing and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Able to travel between operational sites across Brighton & Hove.
