Head of Landlord Compliance & Building Safety Location: Bristol – hybrid working Contract: Initial 6 months Start: ASAP / October 2026 Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday Rate: £387.96 PAYE / £500.00 UMB Sector: Local Government / Social Housing We are currently recruiting for an experienced Head of Landlord Compliance & Building Safety to join a large public sector housing organisation on an initial 6-month interim contract. This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for ensuring that homes and buildings are safe, compliant and effectively managed across a significant housing portfolio. The Role You will provide strategic leadership across landlord compliance, building safety, health & safety and assurance, working closely with senior stakeholders, operational teams, contractors, residents and regulators. Key responsibilities will include: * Providing strategic leadership across landlord compliance and building safety. * Acting as a senior organisational lead for the Building Safety Act, including safety cases, resident engagement and higher-risk buildings. * Overseeing statutory compliance across areas including fire, gas, electrical, asbestos, legionella/water hygiene, lifts/LOLER and wider property safety. * Developing and embedding robust compliance, assurance, audit and risk management frameworks. * Providing clear reporting to senior leadership and governance boards on compliance, risk and improvement activity. * Leading and developing multi-disciplinary teams and creating a strong culture of accountability and safety. * Managing external contractors, partners and supply chains to ensure high-quality and compliant service delivery. * Ensuring accurate compliance data, digital records and the Golden Thread of Building Safety are maintained. * Developing longer-term compliance, health & safety and asset safety strategies. * Supporting regulatory engagement and ensuring statutory and regulatory obligations are met. * Driving continuous improvement and ensuring services remain customer and resident focused. About You We are looking for a senior property, housing or compliance professional with significant experience within social housing, local government, housing associations or another highly regulated property environment. You will ideally have: * Proven senior leadership experience across landlord compliance and/or building safety. * Strong knowledge of statutory property compliance, including fire, gas, electrical, asbestos and legionella/water safety. * Detailed knowledge of the Building Safety Act, Building Regulations and Fire Safety Order. * Experience with higher-risk buildings, safety cases and the Golden Thread. * Strong understanding of risk, assurance, audit and regulatory compliance. * Experience leading large or multi-disciplinary teams. * Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work with residents, contractors, regulators and senior executives. * Experience managing budgets, procurement, contracts and external suppliers. * A track record of delivering organisational change and service improvement. * Relevant professional qualifications such as NEBOSH, CIOB, IOSH, IFE/IFSM or equivalent would be advantageous. Working Arrangements This is a hybrid role based in Bristol, with approximately three days per week in the office. Tuesday and Wednesday office attendance is mandatory. The contract is initially for 6 months, with an immediate/October start required.
