We are currently recruiting for an experienced HR Consultant to join a busy and fast-paced HR Advisory team supporting a large public sector organisation. This is an excellent opportunity for a CIPD-qualified HR professional with strong employee relations experience to provide expert advice and support to managers across a complex operational environment.
The Role
As HR Consultant, you will provide pragmatic and solution-focused HR advice across a broad range of employee relations matters, supporting managers to effectively manage people issues while ensuring compliance with employment legislation, organisational policies and best practice. You will work closely with managers and senior stakeholders, providing guidance on complex casework, supporting formal hearings and appeals, and contributing to organisational change initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day HR advisory support to managers across a range of employee relations matters.
- Manage complex disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance management and sickness absence cases.
- Support managers in preparing for formal hearings, appeals and employment tribunals.
- Advise on the application of HR policies, procedures and employment legislation.
- Build effective working relationships with managers, employees and trade union representatives.
- Support organisational change projects including restructures, consultations and workforce change initiatives.
- Analyse complex HR issues and provide practical recommendations to support decision making.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within HR and Organisational Development.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- CIPD qualification or equivalent HR knowledge and experience.
- Significant experience managing complex employee relations casework.
- Up-to-date knowledge of UK employment legislation and HR best practice.
- Experience working within a large, complex and ideally unionised organisation.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Experience supporting formal hearings, appeals and employment tribunal preparation.
- Excellent written communication skills, including report writing and formal correspondence.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied and demanding workload.
- Confidence working with managers at all levels to deliver practical and commercially focused HR solutions.
Desirable
- Public sector or local government experience.
- Experience supporting organisational change and transformation projects.
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring HR colleagues.
