Experienced Autism Support worker

A young man who lives at home with his mother and has several complex medical conditions. He is a warm and engaging young man who thrives on routine, reassurance and structured activity. He experiences sensory overload and emotional distress at times and requires calm, consistent and confident support to help him stay regulated and safe. The role will include supporting him at home and out in his local community. He will need support with personal care, meal preparation and medication administration. You will need to take direction from his mother, as well as professionals involved in his care.

You need to be an active person who likes outdoor activities and thinking. You need to be experienced in Autism, incorporating de-escalation and distraction techniques if required as well as understanding of his complex health diagnosis. You need to be reliable and emotionally intuitive to allow the client to live a safe, structured and meaningful life. You need to be able to think on your feet, manage your time, be flexible and fun. You need to be able to identify danger before it arrives and anticipate any health needs to keep the client safe. You need to be familiar with sensory needs and how to create activities to keep the client motivated and active at home.

This is a full-time, long-term position requiring consistency, emotional maturity and commitment. Reliability is essential. We are looking for someone who understands the responsibility of supporting a vulnerable young person and can work as part of a small, trusted team.
