Responsibilities:

  • Build and manage a team of highly qualified farm employees to execute crop production activities of Soiex Farms.
  • Manage daily farm operations, including providing direction to all farm employees on current priorities.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the crop production cycle, field/crop planning, tillage, planting, crop protection programs, and harvest.
  • Work closely with the field production team of Maizex Seeds Inc. in the development of annual corn and soybean seed production plans on Soiex Farms land base, including working with neighboring producers for isolation requirements.
  • Develop and execute soil fertility programs for all Soiex owned and rented farms, based on current crop production and future rotation.
  • Responsible for scouting fields during the crop production cycle and making recommendations for best management practices, based on findings.
  • Oversee procurement of all crop inputs and farm supplies, including fuel, lubricants, and shop supplies. Work with local crop input retailers to ensure availability of crop input requirements and competitive pricing.
  • Assist in the development and execution of capital budgets that support equipment replacement, new management practices, and the long-term viability of the farming operation.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and monitoring of all bulk storage facilities, including the security and viability of their contents.
  • Develop and implement daily, monthly, and yearly maintenance schedules for all Soiex Farms equipment and buildings, including the procurement of necessary parts and supplies to ensure that all equipment and buildings are kept in good condition.
  • Assist in decision making surrounding land maintenance, including drainage, erosion management, and overall soil health.
  • Participate in administrative responsibilities of the farm as required, primarily the tracking and calculation of amounts to be invoiced to Maizex Seeds for custom work or equipment rental.

Required Skills:

  • Proven experience as an organizational leader, with 3+ years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Previous experience in farm operations and hybrid seed production.
  • Strong organizational skills including demonstrated ability to effectively organize and prioritize workload and manage a multi-task environment.
  • Strong communication skills (including telephone, e-mail, and presentation skills).
  • Displays a high level of leadership skills and management ability.
  • Strong computational skills including PC experience with proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of people with the ability to analyze and solve problems in an empowered, self-directed work environment.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Agriculture or Business Management, preferred.
