We are seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer. You will ensure the live service continues to run effectively, gain a deep architectural and procedural understanding of component technologies, and gradually assume day-to-day operational responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Knowledge Transfer & Transition Management
    • Pairing & Shadowing: Engage in intensive pairing activities with incumbent team members to absorb development, maintenance, and support workflows.
    • Documentation & Artefact Review: Undertake comprehensive reviews of existing documentation, updating guidance, and mapping out key processes, technologies, and people.
  • Live Service Support & Continuous Improvement
    • Operational Continuity: Ensure the live service remains highly performant and stable during the phased handover period, gradually taking ownership of day-to-day running.
    • Agile Delivery: Fully embed within the team's agile ceremonies (stand-ups, retrospectives, sprint planning) and maintain a regular release cadence.
    • Strategic Alignment: Understand the strategic direction and how it interfaces with the wider Analytical Data as a Service (ADaaS) programme and the Common Data Platform (CDP).
    • Future Roadmapping: Review current state technologies and processes to suggest iterative improvements, identifying opportunities for component reuse and cross-team collaboration.

Tech Stack & Tooling

As a Cloud Engineer within the ADaaS and Common Data Platform ecosystems, you will work with and support a modern cloud and data infrastructure. While part of your role involves mapping and validating the exact footprint during the transition period, the core environment includes:

  • Cloud Infrastructure & Architecture: Cloud platform provisioning and management (AWS/Azure), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and secure cloud networking.
  • Data Engineering & Pipelines: Support for automated data ingestion, orchestration, transformation, and storage patterns.
  • Languages & Scripting: Strong emphasis on Python and SQL for automation and data manipulation.
  • CI/CD & Version Control: Git-based workflows and automated deployment pipelines supporting a regular live release cadence.
  • Analytics & BI Integration: Supporting underlying infrastructure that surfaces data to tools like Power BI/DAX.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Experienced Cloud Engineer: Proven track record operating in complex, live cloud environments with a regular deployment/release cadence.
  • Transition & Knowledge Transfer: Experience stepping into incumbent supplier environments, successfully extracting technical knowledge, and documenting Legacy systems.
  • Agile & DevSecOps Culture: Comfortable working within structured agile frameworks and participating actively in all team ceremonies.
  • Blended Team Collaboration: Demonstrable experience working effectively in multi-disciplinary, multi-supplier environments (eg, Public Sector/Civil Service mixes).
  • Strong Communication: Exceptional ability to articulate complex technical risks, document processes clearly, and present achievements at stakeholder Show and Tells.
