The Role: This is an exciting opportunity to join our Software Engineering Practice as a Principal Engineer, specialising in Java. As a Principal Engineer, you will be at the forefront of driving innovation, leading technical teams, and shaping cutting‑edge solutions. About you: You are a motivated and adaptable professional with a strong analytical mindset and a passion for using technology to solve real‑world problems. You enjoy working in collaborative, agile teams and take pride in delivering high‑quality solutions that make a tangible impact. With strong communication skills and a consultative approach, you are comfortable engaging with clients, understanding their needs, and translating them into effective outcomes. Key Responsibilities:
- Working across the full lifecycle from requirement gathering and design, through to coding and into testing, deployment and maintenance.
- Liaising with management and stakeholders on client requirements and understanding team objectives.
- As a consultant with Solirius you will have exposure to a variety of projects and challenges.
- Championing and contributing towards engineering best practices across our team and projects.
- Identifying/creating ideas for technical solutions.
- Providing feedback to project teams on progress/outcomes.
- Advising developers on technical decisions.
Key Skills/Experience:
- You need to be technically sound but also be able to convey your knowledge and expertise to clients internally and externally.
- Proven experience in technical leadership.
- Expertise in software architecture and design.
- Strong project management skills.
- Agile methodologies.
- A passion for innovation and problem‑solving.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Substantial experience as a hands‑on Java Engineer.
- Ability to advocate Java/Coding principles, practices and philosophy.
- Ability to communicate your design, both verbally and in written form.
- Ability to work with senior stakeholders and detailed technical specialists.
- Beneficial to have worked within the Government previously or Public Sector.
