Due to internal progression, we’re looking for an Accounting Technician/Senior Accounting Technician within our Resources Directorate in the Public Health, Resources & UK Central Finance Team. The team has undergone a recent restructure which gives existing team members and new joiners the opportunity to get involved in a broad spectrum of work. This role will focus on UK Central Investment Programme and Mell Square but also work across the wider team to support a range of financial support work as required.
As part of the Team, you will play a key role in delivering high‑quality financial, technical and administrative support to our service areas. Working with colleagues, budget managers and stakeholders across the Council, you will:
- Produce accurate, timely financial information and analysis
- Support budget setting, monitoring and year‑end processes
- Use financial systems such as Oracle to analyse, reconcile and maintain data
- Prepare and review spreadsheets, including complex Excel workbooks
- Provide professional financial advice, guidance and customer service
- Contribute to improving financial processes and controls
- Handle financial information with accuracy, confidentiality and care
At Band D, you will take on more advanced responsibilities such as preparing grant claims, supporting senior budget managers, and providing technical, advisory or supervisory support to colleagues.
Band C applicants will need:
- 5 GCSEs (A*–C / 4–9), including Maths and English
- AAT Level 2 (or equivalent) or part-qualified AAT
- Strong numeracy and IT skills, including Excel
- Experience working with financial data, systems or administrative processes
- Good organisational and communication skills
Band D applicants will need:
- Full AAT qualification / MAAT membership (or equivalent)
- Experience in advanced Excel and complex financial analysis
- Broader knowledge of accounting principles
- Experience supporting budget management, forecasting and/or year‑end
- Ability to provide technical advice, make evidence‑based decisions and work with minimal supervision
