  • Description

Solid Cor is on a mission to make volume fire door replacement possible within days — enabling the industry to rapidly achieve compliance and community safety in every building.

Born out of the urgent need for change following the Grenfell disaster, we have built the fastest production times in the industry and the widest range of primary-tested fire door configurations.

We are growing fast and we are looking for A-players to help us get there.

We are passionate about getting things right and obsessed with quality.

Our products are safety-critical — when a fire door fails, the consequences are real.

Every cut, every component, every doorset that leaves our Chesterfield factory has to be right.

We are looking for an experienced CNC Machine Operator / Setter to head up the machine side of our Chesterfield facility.

This is a key role in our production operation — you will be responsible for the operation, programming, and maintenance of our SCM 5-axis CNC machinery, as well as supporting the wider production floor with Beamsaw and Edgebander operation.

If you are a technically capable, positive operator who takes pride in precision and wants to be part of a fast-growing business making a real difference — read on.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, set, and programme SCM 5-axis CNC machinery to produce fire door components accurately and to specification.
  • Take the lead on the machine side of the facility — owning setup, operation, and routine maintenance to keep machinery running efficiently and safely.
  • Carry out Beamsaw and Edgebander operation as part of the broader production role.
  • Work from technical drawings, programmes, and production schedules to meet daily output targets.
  • Carry out quality checks on machined components, identifying and reporting any defects or dimensional issues immediately.
  • Perform routine maintenance, tooling changes, and basic fault diagnosis on CNC and associated machinery.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment in line with Solid Cor’s H&S standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider production team to support a smooth, efficient factory operation.
  • Feed improvement ideas back to the production team — supporting continuous improvement of machine processes and output quality.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • An A-player mindset — high standards, extreme ownership and the drive to do things properly, the first time.
  • Proven experience operating and setting CNC machinery in a manufacturing environment — experience with SCM 5-axis CNC machinery is essential.
  • Ability to programme CNC machines and make adjustments to existing programmes.
  • Experience with Beamsaw and Edgebander machinery (preferable).
  • Able to read and work accurately from technical drawings and production schedules.
  • Strong attention to detail — precise, consistent, and quality-focused in everything you do.
  • Good understanding of H&S requirements in a factory environment.
  • A willing, positive attitude and a team-first approach.
  • Background in joinery, timber, panel products, or fire door manufacturing (preferable).
  • Job Benefits

This is a chance to take ownership of the machine operation at one of the UK’s fastest growing fire door manufacturers — with real responsibility, modern equipment, and the satisfaction of knowing your work directly contributes to the safety of residents across the country.

At Solid Cor, we ask a lot — and we give a lot back.

The hours are real, the standards are high and the work is demanding, but for those who show up, deliver and go the extra mile, the rewards follow.

A-players here enjoy a competitive hourly rate, a Personal Development Plan with ongoing training and mentoring, unlimited holiday, a bonus scheme paying up to 50% of annual salary, enhanced maternity and paternity, lunch, snacks and refreshments on us every day (fresh fruit and Takeaway Friday included), a team social budget, cycle to work, an auto-enrolment pension, two major company events a year and our Reward and Recognition scheme — including European mini-breaks for those who go above and beyond.

It is a collaborative, high-energy environment focused on doing things the right way — and none of it is a perk for showing up; it’s what we share with the people pulling the business forward.

Solid Cor is an equal opportunity employer.

We consider all applicants for employment regardless of age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, family or parental status, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief.

We want everyone who works with us to feel valued and to make a difference.
