Design Engineer Permanent Full-Time
Salary β Circa Β£45,000 DOE
Location β Hybrid based in Essex
Join an international clinical services and infrastructure provider supporting healthcare clients across the UK and globally. They design, build, and maintain purpose-built modular and mobile healthcare facilities (including Operating Theatres, Wards, Endoscopy Suites, and Decontamination units) equipped with advanced clinical technology and teams.
We are looking for an ambitious, self-driven Design Engineer to join an established technical design team. In this hands-on role, you will support the design, development, modification, and maintenance of a complex fleet of mobile healthcare units.
Responsibilities, but are not limited to
- Produce and update accurate 2D drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD and SolidWorks
- Develop robust structural, sheet metal, weldment, and MEP design solutions for mobile healthcare units
- Prepare detailed manufacturing drawings, layouts, schematics, and technical documentation for outsourced manufacturing partners
- Support design requirements for ventilation (HVAC), plumbing/water systems, medical gases, and electrical installations using AutoCAD schematics
- Maintain comprehensive design records, drawing registers, and strict change-control processes
- Work closely with Engineering, Operations, and Project teams to resolve technical challenges and ensure strict compliance with relevant healthcare standards (e.g., HTM guidance)
- Conduct periodic site and factory visits to inspect units and support ongoing mobile fleet maintenance
Experiences required
- Proven experience as a Design Engineer within mechanical engineering, building services, modular buildings, coach building / vehicle structures, or offsite manufacturing
- High proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modelling, sheet metal, weldments, routing sketches) and AutoCAD (2D schematics and electrical)
- Strong practical understanding of MEP / HVAC systems (electrical, ventilation, plumbing) alongside solid mechanical fabrication principles
- Proven ability to read, interpret, and produce complex technical drawings, schematics, and specifications
- Proactive and self-motivated with a proactive mindset, capable of working autonomously and delivering work to a high standard
