As a specialist in premium conservation-grade display cases, this manufacturer designs and builds bespoke solutions for museums and galleries worldwide. Their beautifully engineered showcases prioritise protection and aesthetics, incorporating advanced air-exchange testing and high-quality craftsmanship to preserve and display prestigious collections.
As a Design Technician, you will translate complex client visions into technical reality. Using SolidWorks, you will develop precision-engineered, bespoke structures that meet rigorous conservation standards. You will be a key link between initial concepts and final production, ensuring every component is designed for seamless manufacture and assembly.
Responsibilities
- Producing detailed 2D drawings and 3D assemblies using SolidWorks
- Designing and developing bespoke museum-grade display cases and components
- Interpreting client briefs, specifications, conservation requirements, and industry standards
- Developing and refining existing designs, resolving technical and manufacturing issues
- Preparing comprehensive manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly drawings
- Liaising closely with production, project management, and installation teams
- Assisting with site visits when required to verify dimensions and support installations
- Maintaining high standards of accuracy, consistency, and documentation control
- Working sensitively on projects involving high-value, fragile, or irreplaceable objects
Qualifications
- Proficiency in designing with SolidWorks
- A professional background in product design, engineering, joinery, or fabrication
- The ability to produce clear, accurate technical drawings for manufacture (DFM)
- Experience with DraftSight is beneficial but not essential
