About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Wires/Technical Trainer to join our growing operations team in Tewkesbury. This is a unique opportunity for a hands-on wiring professional with strong technical expertise and a passion for developing others. Acting as both a subject matter expert and lead trainer, you will play a pivotal role in upskilling wiring teams across the business, embedding best practice, and ensuring consistently high standards in control panel, loom, and harness wiring. Reporting to the Head of Operations and working closely with the Production Manager, you will directly influence quality, safety, training, and operational performance across multiple sites. This role combines hands-on technical support with mentoring, coaching, and continuous improvement activities across the wider production function.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee wiring and assembly activities, ensuring adherence to technical specifications, quality standards, and safe working practices
- Train, mentor, and supervise junior wiring staff and apprentices
- Lead training delivery for IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship and knowledge standards
- Interpret and work from electrical/electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings
- Develop and maintain training guides, SOPs, checklists, and competency documentation
- Conduct quality checks and troubleshoot technical wiring issues
- Promote health and safety best practice and ensure compliance with relevant standards
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across wiring processes and team performance
- Act as a technical escalation point for wiring-related queries across the Group
- Provide practical hands-on wiring support within production when required
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Completed electrical/electronic apprenticeship or equivalent vocational qualification
- Proven experience wiring control panels, looms, or harnesses within a manufacturing, engineering, or industrial environment
- Strong knowledge of electrical components, terminations, and assembly standards
- Experience training, mentoring, or developing others within a technical environment
- Ability to confidently interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics
- Strong knowledge of wiring safety regulations and safe working practices
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical tasks clearly
- High attention to detail with a quality-focused mindset
- Practical problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach
Desirable
- NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds Level 3 in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or similar
- Formal trainer, assessor, or teaching qualification (AET, TAQA, or equivalent)
- Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards
- Experience creating structured training programmes, SOPs, or competency frameworks
- Knowledge of Lean, 5S, or continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience supporting multiple sites or distributed teams
