Contract Mechanical Design Engineer – SolidWorks IR35 Status: OutHourly Rate – Circa £45 DOEContract Term – 12 monthsLocation – Office Based in Burton On TrentWe're proud to be working with a world-renowned engineering company, recently named Company of the Year. As the largest global specialist in electrical load testing and power conversion equipment, they operate across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, with a cutting-edge manufacturing facility based in Burton-on-Trent.This is a fantastic opportunity for a Contract Mechanical Design Engineer with strong SolidWorks skills to contribute to two major projects focused on product innovation and process improvement.You'll be responsible for designing and modelling mechanical components from scratch, converting legacy 2D drawings into 3D models, and collaborating with electrical and software engineers to deliver high-quality, manufacturable designs.Responsibilities, but are not limited to
- Create detailed mechanical designs, assemblies, and subassemblies using SolidWorks
- Convert 2D AutoCAD drawings into 3D CAD models to improve manufacturing workflows
- Apply Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFMA) principles
- Produce full engineering drawing packs with updates and improvements
- Support new product development and optimise existing designs for performance and efficiency
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical, electrical, and software components
Experiences required
- Proven experience in SolidWorks mechanical design, including detailed assemblies and subassembly models
- Strong background in 2D to 3D CAD conversion
- Solid understanding of DFM/DFMA best practices
- Ability to produce comprehensive engineering documentation
