The company specialises in the design and development of advanced in-wheel motor technology for automotive applications. With a strong focus on precision engineering and cutting-edge design, their team combines in-house electromagnetic expertise with mechanical engineering capabilities to deliver bespoke, high-efficiency motor solutions.
Due to an increase in demand, they are now seeking additional support from an experienced Contract Mechanical Design Engineer who is proficient in creating 3D models using SolidWorks and skilled in producing detailed technical drawing packs for manufacture.
Responsibilities:- Using SolidWorks to a professional standard to create complex part models, assemblies, and detailed technical drawings.
- Designing bespoke electric motors ranging from 90mm to (Apply online only)mm in diameter, including full mechanical assemblies.
- Collaborating closely with the in-house electromagnetic design team to ensure alignment between mechanical structures and magnetic requirements.
- Generating accurate 2D motor geometry and developing 3D models suitable for manufacture.
- Producing comprehensive DFM (Design for Manufacture) drawings for machined and cast components, primarily involving precision CNC milling.
- Performing basic mechanical design analysis to support design decisions and ensure reliability.
- Liaising effectively with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers and external suppliers, to ensure project alignment and design integrity.
- Proficient in creating 3D models using SolidWorks.
- Skilled in producing detailed technical manufacturing drawing packs for precision CNC-milled components.
- Experience in creating full assemblies and sub-assemblies.
- Knowledge of electric motors (servo, brushed/brushless pancake, frameless, in-wheel), rotating equipment, bearings, and shafts.
- Must supply own CAD-capable mobile workstation.
- Must supply own SolidWorks Standard or Professional 2025 licence.
