Contract Design Engineer – SolidWorks IR35 Status: Out

We\’re seeking experienced Mechanical Design Engineers with advanced SolidWorks skills to support critical project delivery. You\’ll work remotely via a secure portal, contributing to the refinement and upgrade of existing designs and helping bring products to market. To be considered you will need to have either an active SC clearance or DBS certificate or be willing to provide a basic DBS certificate.
Responsibilities, but are not limited to
Lead mechanical design of battery modules, enclosures, and bespoke components using SolidWorks 2025 (connected to 3D Experience)
Develop IP67-IP68-rated enclosures and integrate harness and cable routing into assemblies
Apply GD&T principles and ensure compliance with environmental and mechanical standards
Design using plastic injection moulding, sheet metal, and materials such as aluminium, ABS, and fibreglass-reinforced plastics
Engineer busbars, connectors, and laser-welded assemblies for high-reliability applications
Perform tolerance analysis and ensure electrical safety spacing in compact designs
Collaborate with ECAD engineers to import and integrate 3D models (STP files) into SolidWorks
Optimise designs for mass manufacture and assembly, identifying risks and refining components pre-production
Attend weekly engineering progress meetings and deliver updates on tasks and milestonesExperiences required
Proficient creating detailed 3D models using SolidWorks
A minimum of 5 years in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering
Strong background in DFM and creating detailed technical drawing packs
Experience with harness and cable routing, battery module design, and enclosure development
Familiarity with plastic and sheet metal design, joining techniques, and compliance standards
Must provide own CAD workstation
Must provide own SolidWorks 2025 license
Must have an active SC clearance or DBS certificate or be willing to provide one a basic DBS certificate
