Senior Investigation Officer (hybrid)

We are recruiting Senior Investigation Officers in a range of locations. These are hybrid roles available in our Assessment and Early Resolution Team (AERT) and our Investigation Teams. Both full time and part time roles are available.

We receive thousands of reports every year raising allegations of misconduct and regulatory breaches against those we regulate. AERT considers these reports first and decides whether the SRA should investigate further. They make enquiries and gather any further information needed for assessment, identify any potential breach of our rules, and prioritise high risk matters. They then consider the strength and quality of the evidence so far and whether the matter is capable of being evidenced. Sometimes we can guide the firm/solicitor to become compliant or change their processes for the future. Taking everything into account, AERT will decide to close the matter or pass it on for a full investigation.

The work is high volume and fast paced; we need those with a keen eye for detail and an analytical and curious mindset as every case is different. Matters assessed as serious are passed to our Investigation teams. The Investigation teams manage a caseload of varying complexity across a multitude of legal areas. They will analyse detailed information to get to the heart of the matter and identify and promptly obtain a range of documentary evidence, including witness statements. They will resolve cases through constructive engagement, with the most serious cases resulting in a regulatory sanction or enforcement action.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a detailed and thorough understanding of the SRA rules and application of the Enforcement Strategy and other SRA guidance through their handling of investigations. They will coach and develop others in handling their own investigations and empower them to reach timely and proportionate resolutions. They will also support initiatives focused on improving the quality of investigations, including decision making and the early appropriate resolution of investigations.

What we are looking for:

• Significant comparable experience of managing a varied caseload, conducting casework and/or regulatory investigations.
• An ability to gather and analyse information and make sound decisions applying rules, principles, or other decision-making frameworks.
• Significant experience of drafting complex documents or letters to a high, professional standard and engaging with customers via telephone, building rapport and managing contact.
• Experience of coaching and providing guidance in a technical casework environment.
• Effective case management skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands and work to stretching targets.
• A strong mindset and track record for delivering a positive experience for a diverse range of customers and stakeholders both internal and external.

Part time hours would allow for 28-35 hours per week, working across 4 days minimum. This is a hybrid role and we are recruiting for this role in our Birmingham, Cardiff, and London offices. You will be based in the office nearest to your location, with the expectation of working one to two days a week in the office and the remainder of the week from home.
