In this pivotal role, you will leverage your specialist legal skills, knowledge and expertise to monitor and analyse legal and regulatory developments affecting the legal profession, including changes to legislation, case law, and professional rules. Additionally, you will provide legal research and analysis to support decision-making and ensure regulatory decisions align with legal and procedural requirements.

As a PSL, you will play a key role in maintaining and updating our internal legal knowledge resources, including regulatory guidance, case law summaries, and best practice notes. You will contribute to and enhance our established Knowledge Bank for the Investigation and Enforcement teams, ensuring that our resources remain effective, clear, and legally robust. Furthermore, you will develop and deliver training on regulatory and legal topics, supporting the professional development of our internal teams through briefing papers, webinars, and legal updates. Your expertise will also be instrumental in the development and implementation of digital tools for legal research, knowledge management, and regulatory casework. By supporting the SRA in adopting AI-driven legal research tools and other innovative technologies, you will help us stay at the forefront of legal tech advancements.

What we are looking for

  • Qualified solicitor, barrister or Chartered Legal Executive in England & Wales.
  • Significant post-qualification experience (5+ years PQE) in regulatory, compliance or professional discipline.
  • Strong understanding of the legal and regulatory framework governing solicitors, barristers, and other legal professionals (e.g., SRA Code of Conduct, BSB Handbook, Legal Services Act 2007).
  • Excellent legal research, drafting, and communication skills.
  • Experience in regulatory decision-making or professional conduct matters.
  • Ability to translate complex legal principles into clear, practical guidance for non-legal professionals.

Useful and additional information

This role can be based in our Birmingham, Cardiff or London office. We operate on a hybrid working model which means working one to two days a week in the office, and the rest of the week from home. There is a requirement for the successful London/Cardiff based candidate to be in the Birmingham office at least once per month as the team and stakeholders are primarily based in Birmingham. The starting salary for this role is £63,742. For those eligible, an additional 10% London weighting will apply.
