Are you a seasoned investigator with experience in making risk-based recommendations? Do you have a proven track record in investigation, intelligence, audit, or professional regulation?

We are seeking dedicated Proactive Investigation Officers to join our newly established team. This hybrid role involves travel for onsite investigations.

The Role

In this role, you will identify, investigate, and secure evidence of regulatory breaches and other applicable legislation. You will also develop and implement plans for proactive investigation, considering risk indicators to develop proposals for targeted proactive reviews.

As a Proactive Investigation Officer, you will conduct both desk-based and onsite investigations to protect the public interest and mitigate regulatory risks. You will lead site visits independently, gathering and analysing information and intelligence from multiple sources to identify potential misconduct, emerging themes, and regulatory risks, using sound judgment based on the SRA\’s Enforcement Strategy. Your responsibilities will include producing fair, accurate, and evidence-based reports to the highest standards of quality, making and articulating investigative decisions succinctly and clearly, and obtaining evidence from various sources during site visits.

Additionally, you will conduct interviews and obtain witness statements with solicitors, employees, and third parties in an authoritative and competent manner. You will manage and report on progress and key outcomes, represent the SRA at the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal and/or Courts, and explain changes within the regulated legal sector to solicitors and employees. You will also collaborate across functions, compile and cross-reference complex investigation files, and liaise with other regulators, law enforcement, and external agencies.

What we\’re looking for

  • Experienced in leading complex investigations and critically analysing information to make recommendations demonstrating risk-based judgment.
  • Proven experience in one or more of the following areas – Investigation, Intelligence, audit or professional regulation.
  • Ability to analyse, assimilate and evaluate large volumes of information in an efficient and effective way.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, inclusive of drafting complex documents to a high standard.
  • Significant experience of applying and interpreting legislation, policy and criteria in decision making.
  • Effective communication skills at all levels and in particular the ability to make complex matters easily understood by lay people.
  • If you\’re based outside London, a full UK driving licence is required.
