The role involves appointing one legally qualified and three lay panel adjudicators to our panel. You will exercise decision-making powers relating to a broad range of work delegated to adjudicators, committing around seven to 10 days a year to the role, including initial induction training days (virtual) and two in-person continuous training days.
Panel adjudicators usually sit on a panel with two other adjudicators, reviewing and making first instance decisions, dealing with up to five cases on a panel. You are required to work collaboratively and efficiently, ensuring that written decisions are rational, legally compliant, and fair.
You should have significant experience in an environment where judgment and high-level decision-making are required, with the ability to make objective and rational decisions following a detailed analysis of complex, technical, and often protracted information. Additionally, you will be expected to chair the panels.
The fee for a full day panel is £400 and for a half day panel is £250, which includes preparation, meeting, and reviewing the decision. There is a separate reading fee of £100 per matter. When chairing a panel, a fee of £700 is payable for a full day or £400 for a half day panel. You will also sit on panels to decide whether we intervene into a firm, with a fee of £150 plus a £100 reading fee.
The successful candidates will be engaged through a contract for services. We particularly welcome applications from individuals who can reflect the diverse mix of consumers and the legal profession, including legally qualified lawyers working in-house or in private practice.

Experience and knowledge:
- Knowledge of risk-based regulation.
- Experience of working as a member of a team, facilitating discussion, and working collaboratively to reach a decision.
- Understanding of how the principles of regulation impact on consumers and the importance of maintaining and upholding standards in the public interest.
- Competent use of IT software.
