Our Professional Ethics Guidance team are currently seeking to recruit two qualified Solicitors, Barristers or CILEX lawyers as Ethics Advisers on a 12 month fixed term basis. The role Ethics Advisers have a pivotal role in providing expert technical and professional guidance on the rules that govern solicitors' conduct and assist our regulated community and the broader legal services sector in applying these to their situation.
In this varied and rewarding role, you will provide first contact risk-based guidance to the profession via telephone, correspondence, and webchat. You will also be involved in the regulatory decision-making process by considering applications to waive SRA rules. There will also be opportunities to develop specialist expertise by becoming a subject matter expert on specific areas of the SRA's rules. You will also be encouraged to support the team's mission to provide the best ethics guidance service by working with colleagues on a range of projects which enhance the team's positive impact and service to the profession.

What we are looking for:
- A qualified Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX Lawyer with experience of working in private practice, or in house.
- Excellent ability to retain large volumes of information to apply in time-limited circumstances.
- Ability to manage understanding of regulations and/or the law, by knowledgeable professionals.
- Proven ability to grasp complex factual cases and draw out critical information.
- Ability to work on own initiative as well as being a team player.
- Enthusiastic and committed team member who excels in giving expert technical and professional advice.
- Competent judgement maker.
Useful and additional information:
- There are two roles available on a 12 month fixed term basis.
- These roles will be based in the office in central Birmingham 1-2 days a week, and from home the rest of the week.
- The selection process will comprise of an initial stage of telephone role play and written assessment, which will take place remotely on 30 March and 1 April 2026. Successful candidates will then be invited to a values-based interview. These will take place remotely on 8 and 9 April 2026.
