As the team manager, you will be at the forefront of managing and supporting a team dedicated to conducting thorough on-site and desk-based investigations at solicitor practices throughout England and Wales. In this pivotal role, you will provide technical and investigative advice, ensuring the highest quality of remote and on-site assistance to your team members. You will oversee complex, multi-faceted investigations, lead proactive projects, and collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver well-calibrated, risk-based outcomes in a cost-effective manner.
Working closely with the Head of Proactive Investigations & Intelligence, Intelligence Managers, and the Proactive Investigation Team, you will play a crucial role in managing proactive investigations casework. Your leadership will be instrumental in forging constructive relationships with key stakeholders, scheduling and resourcing urgent and high-priority investigative work, and contributing to the strategic direction and performance of the Unit. You will be responsible for delivering weekly management reports on key operational activities, ensuring that all investigations are conducted fairly, proportionately, and in a timely manner.
By taking ownership of the team's deliverables, you will act as the central liaison point with Legal and Enforcement, Investigation Managers, and support investigation officers at Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal hearings. Your role will also involve handling complaints in accordance with internal procedures and deputising for the Head of Proactive Investigations and Intelligence when necessary.
Responsibilities- Lead a team of Proactive Investigation Officers in delivering the SRA's mission of enhancing confidence in legal services, providing quality technical advice, investigation strategy and case direction on a variety of investigations.
- Showcase your people management skills by supporting and developing your team to become excellent customer focused Investigators working to the highest standards.
- Work collaboratively with other areas of our organisation to take action to protect the public.
- Proven leadership experience in one or more of the following areas - Investigation, Intelligence, audit or professional regulation.
- Ability to analyse, assimilate and evaluate large volumes of information in an efficient and effective way.
- Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, inclusive of drafting complex documents to a high standard in a contentious or regulatory environment.
- Significant experience of applying and interpreting legislation, policy and criteria in decision making.
- Experience of mentoring and coaching other professionals and leading teams.
- Experience of influencing and constructively challenging internal and external stakeholders.
- If you're based outside London, a full UK driving licence is required.
