The Geotechnical Sub Alliance (GSA) is at the forefront of the Sizewell C nuclear power station development - one of the UK’s largest and most exciting infrastructure programmes. We’re responsible for preparing the foundations of the entire site: designing and constructing cut‑off walls, retaining structures, soil improvements and more. Using advanced geotechnical engineering and world‑class construction technologies, this is a rare opportunity to contribute to a national project that will shape the UK’s clean‑energy future.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Site Engineer to lead multiple workfronts delivering complex ground‑engineering works. You will take ownership of safety, quality, programme and commercial performance across your scope, providing strong technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers and maintaining effective relationships with clients, alliance partners and site stakeholders. This role operates within an NEC4 Alliance environment and requires sound engineering judgement, disciplined controls and confident leadership on site.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Technical Delivery & Site Leadership: Lead day‑to‑day engineering delivery across multiple workfronts, allocating resources, resolving technical issues, assuring compliance with RAMS, permits and ITPs, and driving close‑out of non‑conformities.
  • Safety & Briefings: Provide visible safety leadership, lead investigations and root‑cause analysis, set and approve briefing content, deliver client and stakeholder briefings, and audit briefing quality and records.
  • Quality & Assurance: Own the QA approach for D‑Wall and soil‑mixing works, ensure hold‑point compliance, manage and close NCRs, and provide clear, data‑driven QA reporting in line with client and third‑party requirements.
  • Programme & Productivity: Own detailed sequencing and short‑interval planning, manage float and critical path, analyse productivity trends, remove systemic constraints, lead weekly productivity reviews, and support delay analysis and recovery planning with the Project Manager.
  • Commercial, Procurement & Contractual: Lead preparation of Early Warnings, NCEs and CEs, manage cost and value trends, contribute to forecasting and earned value, define workface procurement strategies, manage subcontractor performance and variations, and ensure robust NEC4 compliance within an Alliance (Option 4) model.
  • People & Stakeholder Leadership: Coach and mentor engineers, manage performance and difficult conversations up to formal warnings, and act as a strong interface with operations, commercial, procurement, quality and safety teams.

The role requires flexibility to meet project needs and may involve occasional weekend or night working as part of a managed rotation.

What We’re Looking For

  • Essential: 5–8 years’ experience leading engineering workfronts on construction or infrastructure projects; Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering; CSCS and SMSTS; Strong technical competence in ground engineering, including diaphragm walling and soil mixing; Proven experience managing float, critical path, delay analysis and NEC4 processes; Experience preparing and managing EWs, NCEs and CEs; Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder‑management skills; Proficient in project and reporting systems including P6 or MS Project, Excel, AutoCAD and CEMAR.
  • Desirable: IEng or CEng status (or working towards); Appointed Person qualification, incident investigation training and/or NEC4 accreditation; Experience negotiating compensation events and leading recovery planning; Experience working within Alliance or NEC4 Option 4 contract environments.
