Overview
As Sr. Director of Engineering, you will lead AI-first engineering across a global, high-performing organization. You’ll shape the engineering operating model, drive disciplined delivery, and elevate talent through structured change management. You’ll partner with Product, Design, and Data Science to embed AI capabilities into Solera’s core offerings and build scalable, secure platforms. This role combines leadership with hands-on technical direction, delivering measurable impact and advancing AI-driven product velocity.
Responsibilities
- Champion AI-powered tooling across the engineering org to boost throughput and code quality
- Architect and own an AI product enablement strategy with cross-functional partners
- Build internal AI platforms, reusable prompts, and guardrails for safe adoption
- Stay ahead of AI tooling landscape; pilot and institutionalize tools to reduce toil
- Own and improve the engineering operating model from planning to retrospectives and capacity forecasting
- Maintain high say/do ratio via agile delivery, OKR alignment, and data-driven accountability
- Establish predictable releases with CI/CD, quality gates, and observable systems
- Lead quarterly/annual planning, translate business objectives into engineering commitments
- Track delivery health metrics (cycle time, deployment frequency, MTTR, change failure rate) and drive improvement
- Lead, coach, and scale a global engineering organization including managers and senior ICs
- Design structured skills uplift programs focusing on AI literacy and modern delivery practices
- Drive change management for technology transformations with clear communication and milestones
- Build a culture of psychological safety, candid feedback, and continuous learning
- Partner with Talent Acquisition to build diverse, global pipelines; shape engineering brand and hiring bar
- Provide hands-on technical leadership across cloud-native microservices platform (.NET, Java, React, cloud infra)
- Define technology roadmaps with Architects and Product leaders; ensure on-time milestones
- Champion platform engineering concepts to reduce friction and scale delivery
- Own technical debt strategy and align with compliance, security, and regulatory needs across jurisdictions
- Communicate risk, progress, and tradeoffs in executive conversations
- Foster cross-functional alignment with Product, Design, Data Science, and Operations
- Contribute to budget, headcount strategy, and vendor/tooling decisions
Key requirements
- 15+ years of progressive software engineering experience
- 7+ years leading engineering teams at scale
- Hands-on experience integrating AI/ML tools into developer workflows or AI-enabled features
- Proven change management experience in technology transformations
- Experience managing and coaching Engineering Managers across distributed teams
- Deep fluency in cloud-native architecture, microservices, and modern SDLC (CI/CD, DevSecOps, SRE)
- Experience in regulated domains (automotive, insurance, fintech, health tech) is advantageous
- Strong command of engineering metrics and data-driven decision making
- BS/MS in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent practical experience
