Overview
In this role you will serve as a senior member of the Solera Legal team, providing practical, business‑focused legal advice across commercial, corporate, compliance, and operational matters specifically for Solera’s Fleet businesses. You will act as a trusted advisor to executives and cross‑functional teams, translating complex legal issues into actionable guidance while overseeing litigation, contract operations, and process improvements. You will lead and develop a small legal team, shaping contract strategy and dispute resolution at scale. This is an opportunity to influence how we govern large commercial transactions and product initiatives in a fast‑paced, global environment.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements (customer contracts, MSAs, licensing, vendor agreements, NDAs, SOWs)
- Provide strategic guidance on contract structure, risk allocation, and compliance with policies and law
- Interpret and enforce contract terms across the customer lifecycle; draft notices and coordinate responses
- Partner with product and engineering to align contracts with launches and tech requirements
- Support product launches or end‑of‑life transitions with risk‑adjusted guidance
- Lead, mentor, and develop junior legal team members
- Establish workflows and escalation paths to improve contract review efficiency
- Negotiate with customer counsel balancing objectives and risk
- Collaborate with Sales Ops to improve turnaround times while maintaining controls
- Oversee litigation and pre‑litigation matters; manage outside counsel for cost‑effective outcomes
- Act as escalation point for contract disputes and collections; coordinate with Deputy GC, Finance, Sales
- Develop litigation strategy and mitigate risk; advise leadership on exposure and options
- Standardize templates, playbooks, and clause libraries to streamline operations
- Provide clear risk assessments and practical guidance to non‑legal stakeholders
- Identify emerging legal risks and propose mitigations
- Partner with Sales, Finance, HR, Compliance, Engineering, and Operations
- Deliver executive communications and day‑to‑day counseling; foster collaborative culture
Key requirements
- 15+ years of legal experience in drafting/negotiating complex commercial agreements
- In‑house and supervisory experience
- Juris Doctor; active state bar (Texas preferred)
- Experience advising HR on employment law matters (EEOC investigations)
- Familiarity with consumer credit, financial services, and consumer protection laws (GLBA, CCPA, TCPA, FCRA) is a plus
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to translate legal concepts for non‑legal stakeholders
- Responsive, service‑oriented approach; ability to influence leaders at all levels
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
