Southampton Solent University’s Warsash Maritime School is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Yacht Design to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Yacht and Sustainable Vessel Design and to grow the commercial and research activities of the school. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery and enhancement of the student experience within the school.
About the Yacht Design Department
Southampton Solent University’s Warsash Maritime School has a global reputation for delivering real-world, practice-led education to deliver the future leaders of the maritime industry. The Yacht Design Department has an international reputation, with long-standing collaborations with industry providing education and research in innovative design, advanced construction methods, cutting-edge composite materials, alternative marine fuels, and sustainable maritime. The department specialises in small vessel design for both motor and sailing craft under 100m.
Role and responsibilities
Within the Yacht Design department of the school, the successful candidate will hold an undergraduate and/or postgraduate degree and preferably a doctorate (or be close to completion), in a relevant subject area (e.g. Naval Architecture, Yacht or Commercial Craft Design or Marine design or a similarly related area). Ideally, they will have some practical experience of designing sailing or motor vessels, whether for the commercial or leisure industry. The successful candidate will teach across a wide range of topics within the school. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate is flexible and able to teach across a wide range of subjects.

- Starting salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience within the salary band stated.
- 35 days in addition to public holidays and scheduled university closure periods at the discretion of the university.
- Development pathways are available to upskill and undertake a post-graduate teaching qualification if not already held.
