The Counsellor role delivers timely support to our students via short term counselling sessions and Single Session Therapy. The role involves triaging self-referrals, delivering Triage Duty responsibilities, and developing and delivering therapeutic groups and psychoeducational workshops to students via in-curriculum sessions, workshops, course inductions and talks, along with delivering training sessions to University Staff on supporting students' mental health.

An excellent opportunity for a counsellor to join a busy and dynamic service, delivering counselling and therapy support to students. Student Success are seeking to recruit two experienced part-time (0.81 FTE & 0.60 FTE) Counsellors to work within our Mental Health & Wellbeing Team. Your role will involve triaging online self-referrals from students, delivering Single Session Therapy appointments, short-term (up to 6 sessions) ongoing therapy, and providing Supervision to our Volunteer Counsellors. In addition, you will undertake, on a rota basis, Triage Duty Practitioner responsibilities and be involved in delivering groups and workshops to students via psychoeducational sessions and in-curriculum training sessions, along with delivering training to University staff on supporting students’ mental health.

Responsibilities

  • Triaging online self-referrals from students and delivering Single Session Therapy appointments
  • Providing short-term therapy (up to 6 sessions) and ongoing therapeutic support
  • Developing and delivering therapeutic groups and psychoeducational workshops to students
  • Delivering in-curriculum sessions, workshops, course inductions and talks
  • Delivering training sessions to University staff on supporting students’ mental health
  • On a rota basis, undertaking Triage Duty Practitioner responsibilities
  • Providing supervision to Volunteer Counsellors
  • Working with a multi-disciplinary team alongside Mental Health Advisers
  • Delivering short-term CBT- or DBT-informed sessions where appropriate

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Experience as a counsellor delivering short-term therapy
  • Ability to triage referrals and work in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience supervising or supporting volunteer counsellors is desirable
  • Ability to deliver CBT- or DBT-informed short-term sessions
  • Part-time availability for 0.81 FTE or 0.60 FTE roles
