Role Description The Residential Child Care Worker is a full-time, on-site role based in Ringwood, supporting children and young people in a residential setting. Day-to-day responsibilities include providing consistent care and supervision, supporting children with daily routines, and promoting positive behavior through clear boundaries and encouragement. The role involves building trusting relationships, offering emotional support, and helping children develop social, life, and independent living skills. The worker will assist with education-related activities, liaise with schools and other professionals, maintain accurate records and reports, and contribute to care plans and reviews. The position also includes participating in team meetings, following safeguarding and health and safety procedures, and engaging children in recreational and therapeutic activities.
Qualifications
- Experience working with children and young people in residential care, social care, education, or similar settings.
- Strong communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with children, colleagues, and external professionals.
- Ability to manage challenging behavior calmly, use de-escalation techniques, and provide consistent, trauma-informed support.
- Organizational and record-keeping skills, including the ability to follow care plans, complete reports, and adhere to policies and procedures.
- Commitment to safeguarding, child protection, and promoting the welfare and rights of children and young people.
- Resilience, adaptability, and the ability to work effectively in a team and independently, including participating in shift work and occasional weekends.
- Basic IT skills for recording information, communicating with professionals, and accessing training materials.
- Relevant qualification in childcare, social care, or youth work (e.g., Level 3 Diploma in Residential Child Care) or willingness to work toward such a qualification.
- Understanding of the importance of education and willingness to support children’s learning and engagement with school or training.
- Full driving license and ability to travel locally with children when required (desirable but not essential).
