The Role
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Day Lead Operator to operate and maintain our Energy & Effluent utility plants efficiently and safely. This is a hands-on role at the heart of operations, ensuring compliance with all EHS and COMAH requirements while supporting plant performance and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain utility plants, including CHP, in line with procedures and safety regulations
- Issue General, Hotwork and notification permits, and complete waste documentation and spreadsheets
- Participate fully in the Permit to Work (PTW) system, including risk assessment, isolations, and safety checks
- Communicate effectively with your team, shift managers, and incoming shifts; maintain accurate handovers, logs, and SAP records
- Support plant troubleshooting, process operations, and departmental performance improvements
- Maintain high housekeeping standards through 5S practices, contributing ideas for improvement
- Ensure compliance with COMAH critical procedures and report any discrepancies promptly
About You
- City & Guilds / ONC qualified, preferably HNC in an engineering discipline
- Experience working in utilities, CHP, waste incineration, or chemical plants
- Strong safety awareness and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
