With the UK government’s ambitious goal of delivering 60GW of solar power by 2030, Solar Careers UK are on a mission to help recruit, train, and place over 43,000 new professionals into rewarding careers within the solar and battery storage industry. Solar Careers UK is a division of Solar Energy UK, the trade association representing over 425 solar businesses across the country. Many of these companies specialise in delivering high-quality solar installations for domestic, commercial, and utility-scale projects.

At Emtec Energy, we’re growing our pre-construction team to support an exciting and expanding pipeline of solar PV, battery storage and grid connection projects. This newly created role sits at the heart of that growth, managing the design phase as a project in its own right and ensuring schemes are fully developed, coordinated and ready to build. Part of the wider Emtec Group, Emtec Energy delivers renewable and low-carbon energy solutions that actively support the UK’s journey to Net Zero.

The Role

As Pre-Construction Project Manager, you’ll lead projects through the critical early stages, shaping designs, managing programme, cost and risk, and bringing together multidisciplinary teams to create construction-ready solutions. This is a hands-on, project-focused role within pre-construction, bridging the gap between development and delivery and setting projects up for success before they reach site.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead and manage the pre-construction phase of energy projects, taking designs through to construction-ready stage.
  • Act as project manager during the design phase, controlling programme, scope, cost and risk.
  • Develop and maintain pre-construction programmes, budgets and risk registers.
  • Work closely with clients to define requirements and progress designs to an agreed scope.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary design inputs (civils, electrical, grid, structural, environmental).
  • Oversee design reviews to ensure compliance, buildability, quality and value.
  • Ensure compliance with UK planning, Building Regulations, industry standards (G99, IEC, BS) and CDM 2015.
  • Coordinate PCI, design risk assessments and early-stage RAMS.
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, consultants, DNOs/IDNOs and specialist subcontractors.
  • Manage consultant scopes, lead pre-construction meetings and communicate risks and mitigation.
  • Monitor pre-construction costs, track design-stage KPIs and identify value-engineering opportunities.

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree or equivalent in Construction Management, Renewable Energy, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience managing energy or construction projects.
  • Proven experience implementing and ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations, DNO requirements and renewable energy standards.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Proficient in project management software such as MS Project or Primavera.
  • Desirable qualifications and certifications: SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) Certification, CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) Card, IOSH or NEBOSH Health.
