With the UK government’s ambitious goal of delivering 60GW of solar power by 2030, Solar Careers UK are on a mission to help recruit, train, and place over 43,000 new professionals into rewarding careers within the solar and battery storage industry. Solar Careers UK is a division of Solar Energy UK, the trade association representing over 425 solar businesses across the country. Many of these companies specialise in delivering high-quality solar installations for domestic, commercial, and utility-scale projects.
The Role
You will be working in our warehouse, processing a wide variety of orders from start to finish. We sell primarily to trade customers, and orders vary from single-item packages sent out by courier, solar kits that are sent on a single pallet, right up to commercial PV systems with lorry loads of solar panels and associated mounting systems. Working under the warehouse manager, you’ll be responsible for processing the day’s orders: picking, checking and packing them, booking them on for dispatch and ensuring they are labelled and loaded correctly. You will also help to keep an eye on stock levels, unload, check and put away inbound goods, and help keep the warehouse tidy and running smoothly, following Health and Safety guidelines at all times.
This is a full-time role. Depending on your team, the work will involve:
- Picking from SKU codes with great attention to detail
- Packing goods securely for dispatch
- Stacking solar panels onto pallets securely and carefully
- Lifting and handling boxes of batteries (some heavy lifting)
- Loading and unloading vehicles
- Using pallet trucks and (if certified) counter balance forklifts
- Keeping the workspace safe and tidy
- Processing inbound goods deliveries using our stock system
- Stocking shelves, racking and picking areas
Always adhering to H&S guidelines. The role will involve rotating shift patterns, with early shifts covering 6am-2pm and late shifts from 2pm-10pm with a 40 minute break. A shift allowance of an extra £3 per hour worked outside of the hours of 8:00-18:00 will be paid. This adds £6 to an early shift, and £12 to a late shift.
About Us
We specialise in solar PV systems. The bulk of our turnover is in distributing complete solar PV kits, including solar panels, inverters, mounting systems and electrical components, to a network of installation customers. We also sell smaller PV systems for off-grid applications direct to retail customers, and we have developed our own software product for designing PV systems. We’ve grown significantly from humble beginnings – our first storeroom was the front room of a narrowboat, and we’ve outgrown five warehouses since, and opened a subsidiary in Ireland. We’re passionate about the environment, and we’ve gained a reputation for a helpful and open approach to business. The office is a friendly, dynamic and informal place to work.
The ideal candidate
You enjoy a challenge, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You have impeccable attention to detail, and enjoy a role that’s often physically demanding. You enjoy a dynamic work atmosphere, and have a friendly and easy-going manner with co-workers and customers. You’re happy to get involved with whatever needs doing, and eager to be part of helping a small company grow. We’re particularly interested in applicants with prior experience of warehouse work, or with previous experience with solar PV. But these are not essential – initiative, enthusiasm and the right attitude are more important. Forklift or H&S training is also beneficial, but not required.
What you’ll get:
- A friendly and fast-paced work environment alongside a great team
- £22k-24k depending on experience. The Company also operates a discretionary profit-share scheme for long serving employees, which can add significantly to basic salary.
- Shift allowance additional to salary
- 25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays
- Enrolment in the company pension scheme
